I was getting ready to make the hubs some tacos the other night. Well, to be honest, I was going to eat them, too. He always corrects me. Anyways....where was I? Oh yes, tacos.
I was getting ready to make US some tacos. I already had the meat browning in the skillet. I pulled out my trusty can of taco seasoning to find it almost empty! Tragedy! How will I make tacos? There was no ways I was loading me and Iz up and drive to the store just for taco seasoning.
What's a girl to do?
TGFG. (Thank God for Google.)
I got out my laptop and googled "taco seasoning recipe." The recipe I found was absolutely delicious, and to make it even better, it didn't contain and MSG or unpronounceable "anticakeing agents". It only took about five minutes to make and clean up, and I'm planning on making a huge batch next time to store in a jar for future tacos and soups.
Here's the recipe: (I found it at allrecipes.com and altered it a little bit)
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
Mix in a bowl. Use as you would any taco seasoning. This recipe makes enough to season about 3 pounds of meat, depending on how seasoned you like it.
I like to stretch my meat by mixing it with cooked leftover brown rice if I have it. It also helps clean out the fridge. Come to think of it, it would probably be good to mix leftover veggies in, too. I wonder if a "taco pasta" would be good?
Do you have any interesting uses for taco seasoning?

Unfortunately, I don't have any good taco seasoning ideas. I noticed that you mentioned a taco pasta. I'm not sure if I saw it in Allrecipes.com or another site.. but someone had posted some recipe I use and it's delicious !!!!
ReplyDeleteBasically, you cut up some beef down to maybe 1 inch strips, season it with a taco seasoning and cook it.
You make pasta (using either spiral noodles or egg noodles-something short and wide)
You heat up some black beans inside salsa sauce (mild or whatever's to your taste)-just enough to cover and let simmer so there's not too much sauce left.
After everything's done.. put the pasta on a plate. top with meat strips, salsa beans and shred some cheese on top (it should melt because the food's still very much warm.
This is delicious !!
